The school year is filled with so many great memories! Do you remember the joy you felt on the first day of school the minute you saw your best friends in the class and realized the school year was going to be exciting? Do you remember how awkward your first school dance was because everyone was afraid to dance with each other? Do you remember that one cool teacher who could always make you laugh and learn at the same time? Do you remember that one school teacher that you would rather forget? All these memories can be recalled when you look through your yearbook. At Calendria, we help capture these memories in a way that will bring them to life. Calendria is a better way to design, sell, teach and publish a yearbook, all while fundraising for your school but before we can begin this journey, it’s important to understand what a yearbook is!
Lesson 1 – What is a yearbook?
- A yearbook, also known as an annual, is a type of book that gets published annually.
- Yearbooks are used to record, highlight and commemorate the past year of school.
- For example, a yearbook will usually include; class photos, team photos, notable accomplishments such as the recipients of awards and winners of tournaments, as well as community, social, and service events.
- These collections of memories are typically highlighted in the form of carefully laid out photos and captions with minimal but clear copy.
- Yearbooks are created by a group of students along with the help of one or more teachers. Sometimes parents help too!
- A yearbook often has an overarching theme that informs the content and design decisions made throughout the publication.
Think about your school in particular, what is it that you wish to say about the past year? What theme might best convey this message?
